Linus Torvalds has announced the release of the Linux kernel version 2.6.30. I downloaded the full source and patch which can be found here or you can downloaded either at your local kernel.org mirror.
Odd thing is that while the files are available via kernel.org ftp servers, the web site has not been updated with the release notes, etc. A quick glance at the announcement shows that this release has several new filesystems, R6/R7 ATI DRM support, asynchronous filesystem check ability, and other improvements.

Wow, its been a while since my last update. I completely missed the 2.28 release, sorry (and yes, I did back date this story, I have no shame). Anyways, Linux Torvalds has announced the release of the 2.6.29 version of the Linux kernel. It seems the most notable change in this release is the temporary Tuz logo. Linus notes "...most of the non-logo changes really shouldn't be all that noticeable to most people. Nothing really exciting...".
As usual, I have full kernel source and patch available via netfoo ftp, or you can always visit your local kernel.org mirror.

Ken Smith has announced the release of FreeBSD version 7.1. This release makes the ULE scheduler the default scheduler for better multicore performance, DTRACE support (imported from OpenSolaris), a new NFS locking system, the ability to boot from USB devices, and much more.
I am downloading the ISO images now. Hopefully they will be ready by the end of the day via Netfoo FTP.

Linux kernel 2.6.27 has been released. It was actually released on 10/9/08, but I haven't had the time to add the story. Probably the most notable thing about this release is the addition of the UBIFS which is a filesystem for flash based drives. As usual, you can get the full kernel source or patch here or visit your local kernel.org mirror. kernelnewbies.org has a great page up with all of the juicy info.

Linus Torvalds has announced the release of the linux kernel version 2.6.25, so it seems that I had missed the past couple of kernel releases. This is a pretty hefty update as the patch from 2.6.24 weighs in a little over 11mb. As usual, you can download the full kernel or patch from here or visit your local kernel.org mirror.

Just a month after the release of FreeBSD 6.2, it was announced that FreeBSD 7.0 has been released. 7.0 brings some large multiprocessor performance increases as well as experimental ZFS support, improved 802.11 support, and a whole lot more.
You can downloaded the ISO images here or visit your local mirror.
